How do I mark a Resit assessment in Coursework?

Resit assessment dropboxes are created automatically and added to the Resits section of your module during the first few weeks of the semester.

Important: Ensure that the fifth section of your course is titled Resits, in line with the VLE teaching template.

A separate resit dropbox is created for each assessment component in your module. Students eligible for resits will be assigned to the appropriate dropbox using a group restriction. This allocation takes place after marks have been confirmed by the Subject Examination Committee.

Group restrictions

Each dropbox contains two group restrictions:

  • RE – students eligible for capped resits
  • UR – students eligible for uncapped resits

Example:

Not available (hidden) unless any of:
– You belong to (DO NOT EDIT) ANML6002 (202509:1) – CWS1WEEK10-1 RE
– You belong to (DO NOT EDIT) ANML6002 (202509:1) – CWS1WEEK10-1 UR

Do not remove or edit these restrictions.

Group restrictions are required to:

  • Apply extensions (ISPs and Exceptional Circumstances) correctly
  • Ensure marks are transferred correctly to Banner

Anonymity

When marking resits, you may need to adjust anonymity. Options include:

Check with your programme team before deciding which approach to use.

When marking resits, you may you may encounter the message: “Read Only: This paper was submitted to a class that is expired, and is currently in read-only mode.” This occurs because the class end date is controlled by the Moodle Course end date in the course settings. For guidance on how to resolve this issue, please see: Why is my Turnitin assignment read-only?
