How do I mark a capped and an uncapped resit assessment in Coursework activities?

Resit assessment dropboxes will be created for you automatically and deployed to the Resits section in Moodle. Students will be automatically allocated to the appropriate assessment dropboxes based on their finalised marks in Banner. If a student has failed the module, they will be awarded the opportunity to resit any of the gradable components for which they have received a failing mark. Students will be awarded one of two types of resit after all marks are agreed by the Subject Examination Committee. The resits are then due at a later date, usually in the next semester.

All capped and uncapped resit assessments should be submitted to and marked in the Resit Coursework activities that are automatically deployed in the Resits section of Moodle. Once marks are finalised and released, Assessment Coursework activities should not be adjusted or changed.

Types of resits:

  • The most common type of resit is the capped resit.
    • The highest mark a capped resit submission can receive is a 40 for UG courses and a 50 for PG courses.
    • They should be marked in the relevant resit dropbox and a mark out of the maximum allowed should be given.
  • The other type of resit is an uncapped resit.
    • Uncapped resits are awarded based on successful Exceptional Circumstances applications, usually a Type C application.
    • Uncapped resit assessments are allowed the full range of marks.
    • They should be marked in the relevant resit dropbox as normal.

If your Moodle course does not have a Resit section please confirm your Moodle course’s compliance to the VLE teaching template as the fifth section of your Moodle course should be the ‘Resits’ section. You should ensure that a Resits section is included in your course before results are released.
