How do I enable authentication for my Zoom meetings?

Zoom allows you to restrict access to your meetings and allow only Brookes students (i.e. with Brookes Zoom accounts) to access them. This can help you prevent people outside Brookes to access your meetings and cause disruption.

We recommend enabling authentication if you pre-assign students to breakout rooms in order for Zoom to be able to match the student number you pre-assigned with the Zoom account that the student has used to join the meeting.

When you schedule your meeting in Moodle:

  1. Tick the box next to Require authentication to join.
  2. In the dropdown menu, select Need to be signed in to Brookes Zoom account.

Important

When you have authentication enabled in your meetings, it will prevent users from joining the meeting if they don’t log in with their Brookes Zoom account. Share this video with your students that shows them step by step how to log in to Zoom correctly: Joining Zoom lectures (opens in new tab).

I have invited a guest speaker to my Brookes lecture

When you schedule your meeting, don’t tick the box next to Require authentication to join.

I have a meeting only with people external to Brookes

When you schedule your meeting, don’t tick the box next to Require authentication to join.
