How do I auto-create student groups in Moodle?

To auto-create student groups:

  1. From the Navigation sidebar, click on Participants.
  2. Click on Settings (top right).
  3. In the dropdown list select Groups.
  4. Click on Auto-Create Groups.
  5. In the Naming scheme field type Group @ to create groups called Group A, B, C etc. or type Group # to create groups called Group 1, 2, 3 etc.
  6. In the Auto create based on field select either Number of groups or Members per group.
  7. In the Group/member count field enter the number of groups you require or number of members per group.
  8. For Group messaging select either Yes or No to allow or prevent group members to send messages to the group via the Messaging drawer on the right.
  9. Under Select members with role select Student.
  10. Under Allocate members select either Randomly or Alphabetically.
