Why does a submission show high originality score but no highlights?

It happens when you have selected to exclude bibliography in a Turnitin assignment. Turnitin looks for the words ‘References’ or ‘Bibliography’ in a student submission and it excludes the part below these words. In cases where students have included either of these words in the table of contents and the tutor has selected to exclude bibliography, Turnitin tends to exclude the whole submission as it is treated as a references list. As a result of this, the originality percentage appears to be high but no highlights appear in the student paper.

It is not possible to include bibliography for all submissions in an assignment, but you can include bibliography for individual submissions:

  1. Open the submission in Feedback Studio.
  2. Click Filter and Settings.
  3. Uncheck Exclude bibliography.
  4. Click Apply changes.
