Why can’t I see which students viewed their feedback in Turnitin?

Turnitin displays a user-checkmark icon on the right of the submission inbox in Moodle, next to the grade column, to notify tutors whether students have viewed their feedback.

While students need to view their feedback in Feedback Studio for at least 30 seconds for the checkmark to appear, there are cases where the icon doesn’t appear even if students have viewed their feedback for longer.

This is because of syncing issues between our Moodle integration and Turnitin and in those cases you will need to either refresh all submissions at once or click the refresh icon next to each individual submission for the checkmark to appear.

Refresh all submissions

To refresh all submissions in bulk:

  1. Go the Turnitin submission inbox in Moodle.
  2. Click Edit Settings from the Settings cog.
  3. Click Refresh all grades from Turnitin at the top.
  4. From the course breadcrumb trail, go back to the submission inbox.
