How do I remove a block from Moodle?

Why can’t I remove some blocks?

Certain blocks, such as Forms, cannot be removed as they contain important information for students. Empty blocks, that cannot be deleted manually, will disappear when you turn editing off (so they won’t be visible to students). Other blocks, such as e-Portfolio, cannot be deleted because they work as integration with other systems, e.g. with Mahara, the portfolio platform.

Why should I remove blocks?

It’s good practice to remove blocks that you are not using in your modules to maintain an uncluttered space for students and create more screen real estate for screens such as assignments or the Moodle Gradebook.

To remove a block from your module:

  1. Turn editing on.
  2. Find the block you would like to remove.
  3. From the right of the block title click the actions menu .
  4. Choose Delete (name of the block) block.
  5. In the confirmation dialog box choose Yes.

To remove a block from your Moodle Dashboard:

  1. Toggle Edit mode on (top right).
  2. Find the block you would like to remove.
  3. From the right of the block title click the actions menu .
  4. Choose Delete (name of the block) block.
  5. In the confirmation dialog box choose Yes.
