We have prepared a new webpage for students with the information they need to know about the Engagement and Attendance policy, as well as how the monitoring system works within their academic modules in Moodle.
While we will send out University-wide communications to students, we also recommend that you post an announcement in your module before the first teaching session. You can create the announcement in your module now and schedule it to appear in your module and be emailed to students on specific day and time.
We have prepared a templated announcement which you can copy and paste in the announcement activity in your module:
Dear student,
What’s happening?
From September 2024, Oxford Brookes has a new Engagement and Attendance policy where all students will scan a QR code during their taught sessions to mark their attendance. After a successful pilot earlier this year, the system will monitor student engagement and attendance of lectures and other teaching sessions to help the University identify students who would benefit from extra support in reaching their potential. It will also support international students’ visa requirements.
How do I record my attendance?
Attendance will be captured at any time during the teaching session through the Module Attendance link that appears in the Key Resources section of this module in Moodle. How you access the link will depend on the device you have with you in the session.
The Recording your attendance as a student webpage explains what you need to do and includes a video and step-by-step guidance to help you learn how to register your attendance. Please watch/read the guidance below before your first teaching session to familiarise yourself with the new system.

How do I report any issues?
If you experience any issues with recording your attendance in Moodle, please speak to your lecturer in the first instance as they will be in the session. If your lecturers are unavailable or unable to help, please submit a query using this form: Attendance Monitoring Query form.
Thank you for your cooperation
