How do I enable the Atto editor in Moodle?

The Atto HTML editor is the default and supported editor in Moodle and a lot of our guidance will assume that you are using that in your Moodle account. Other systems that we use at Oxford Brookes, such as Respondus Lockdown browser (for alternative provision exams), are not fully compatible with Atto and during exams we may have to switch Moodle to another editor, called TinyMCE, to ensure compatibility.

If incompatibilities issues with Atto don’t affect you and you need to use features only supported in Atto, make sure that you have enabled it for your account:

  1. Click your profile menu (top right hand corner).
  2. Choose Preferences.
  3. Click Editor Preferences.
  4. For Text Editor, choose Atto HTML editor.
  5. Click Save Changes.
