Getting to know the Coursework marking interface

The Coursework tool in Moodle provides markers with a streamlined marking interface that includes: a clear overview of the assignment dates, a list of submissions for quick tracking and access to plagiarism alerts, Turnitin’s marking tools (Feedback Studio) and moderation controls.

Text-only format
Deadline for submissions. The due date/deadline by which students need to submit their work.

Grade/feedback release date. The date and time when grades and feedback will be released to students.

General feedback. You can optionally give generic feedback to whole cohort of the module.

First/last name. This is where the first, last name and student number are displayed for each student. When the dropbox is anonymous, the word ‘Hidden’ is displayed.

Status. The status of the submission can be:
Ready to grade, which appears right after the students have submitted and their submission has been finalised.
Graded, which appears after you have finished marking in Turnitin.
Released to students, which appears after you have released grades and feedback to students.

Submissions file(s)/Submission ID. The name of the file that the student has submitted and a unique ‘X’ number to help you identify submissions.

Submission date. The date and time when students submitted their work. Any extensions will appear below the submission date for each student.

Plagiarism alert. Plagiarism flags that can be used to flag submissions to SIRT for potential plagiarism. This is needed in addition to the Academic Conduct Referral Form.

Turnitin/Grademark. The Turnitin column which shows the Turnitin ID, the original percentage and the blue pencil to access Feedback Studio in order to mark the submission.

Grade reason. This is needed for the mark upload in Banner. 

Feedback and Grading. Marking interface in Coursework for non-Turnitin assessments.

Moderation agreement. The moderate button appears right after a submission has been marked and allows moderators to add comments and state whether they agree or disagree with the original marker.

Release all grades. You must click this button on the day and time that you would like to release grades and feedback to students.

Reveal identities. You must click this to reveal identities in Turnitin.
